Check For Lice Before You Spread the Love
With the holidays right around the corner, lice is not a welcomed guest in any of its festivities. Hugs, selfies, and cozy moments should not be joined with the apprehension of not knowing if the lousy bug–lice–has made it’s home in your hair. It’s important to check for lice before you spread the love.
Head lice are tiny bugs that live in the hair and nits are the empty egg cases attached to the hair that lice hatch from. Virginia is one of 28 states suffering from the super edition of this pesky bug. The question is, do you have lice?
Having to check for lice can be tricky, but not altogether impossible.
First, look at the hair strands about a quarter-inch from the scalp. Look for tiny specks that are “glued” securely to your hair. If they cannot be easily pulled from your hair, they might be eggs (also called nits).
Next, keep in mind that where there are eggs, there’s gotta be a bug involved! If you see a grayish-white or tan bug crawling through your hair, it’s probably a louse–and more than one louse is lice!
